applist-add - allows to expand the app list provided by applist (provided by Starbuntu)

applist-add <file path> | <*.file extension>

The Starbuntu program applist-add, which cooperates with the Starbuntu program applist, allows to expand the graphical list of possible applications provided by applist to the mime type of a file or a file extension (e.g. *.pdf). After entering a desired application, the program searches for suitable desktop files in the $HOME/.local/share/applications and /usr/share/applications folders and, if found, displays them numbered. After entering the desired number, a check is made to see whether the desktop file in question is already recorded in the files */mimeapps.list and */mimeinfo.cache. If the result is negative, the name of the respective desktop file is appended to the relevant mime type line in the file $HOME/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. This will expand the associated app list to include the desired application.

It should be noted that only desktop files are taken into account which

• are executable (terminal command: (sudo) chmod a+x <path of the desktop file>),
  
  
• are assigned to a category of the app menu, i.e. contain the entry 'Categories=...',
  
  
• do not contain the entry 'NoDisplay=true'.

In the file manager, applist-add can, after right-clicking on a file, be called under 'Open with ' with the menu item 'Expand App List'.
