applist - provides a list of possible applications for a file/file extension (provided by Starbuntu)

applist <file path> | <*.file extension>

The Starbuntu program applist, which cooperates with the Starbuntu program open-with, provides a graphical list of possible applications for a file or a file extension (e.g. *.pdf) and, after selecting an application, outputs the name of its desktop configuration file.

It should be noted that only applications are taken into account whose desktop files

• are executable (terminal command: (sudo) chmod a+x <path of the desktop file>),
  
  
• are assigned to a category of the app menu, i.e. contain the entry 'Categories=...',
  
  
• do not contain the entry 'NoDisplay=true'.

If you miss an important application for a selected file after clicking on 'Open with...' and 'Application' in the list of possible applications that opens, click on 'Open with...' again and then on the menu item 'Expand App List'. This starts the Starbuntu program applist-add.
